2001 Tournament
|
VolleyPalooza 2001 was held February 23-25. The tournament itself was approximately 10:00am-4:00pm on Saturday, and 10:00am-5:00pm on Sunday. There was excellent entertainment during breaks in the action (including during lunch), and the award ceremonies were immediately after the tournament on Sunday.
Ocean Drive magazine kicked off the weekend with its annual party for VIP sponsors, modeling agencies, and players at 10:00 p.m. on Friday night at the Living Room. The Living Room (www.livingroom2000.com or www.joeblack.com/livingroom) has long been one of the most famous clubs in South Beach.
Rick Delgado was master-of-ceremonies, and did his usual excellent job of keeping the tournament going, and keeping the fans informed. Saturday's weather was perfect as it almost always is in South Beach, and the fans enjoyed a great day of beach volleyball played by beautiful people, with two superb live performances.
Saturday night at 10:00p.m., the VolleyPalooza party fun continued at Krave (www.joeblack.com/krave), a top club that quickly became popular after its opening last year.
The tournment action itself was more exciting than ever. Models Inc. won the winner's bracket, and defending champion The Green Agency won the consolidation bracket. The final was won by The Green Agency, giving each team one loss, and sending the tournament into a seven point double final. Models Inc. won that by the close score of 7-5, and thus took the Corona Crown and won an all-expense paid trip to Our Lucaya.
The VolleyPalooza wrap-up party was Sunday at 8:00p.m. at Nikki Beach Club (in the Penrod's complex at One Ocean Drive; telephone 305.538.1231). Nikki Beach is well known for having brought a sophisticated and exotic indoor/outdoor club ambiance to South Beach.
